At an automotive OEM, scale changes everything. The questions are the same as any tracking problem — where is it, is it moving, is it on time — but the number of things being tracked, the number of people who need the answer, and the standard of reliability expected are all in a different league. This was live tracking delivered for a major OEM, jointly with Honest IT Group, combining our tracking and dashboard work with their capability.
It is also a case study about how Uminber works with partners. We are comfortable being one half of a joint delivery to a large client — bringing our part, integrating cleanly, and shipping something live rather than a proof of concept.

Tracking one vehicle is a demo. Tracking at OEM scale, reliably, for a client of this size, is an engineering and coordination problem. The live location had to stay accurate and current under real load, the dashboard had to make that legible to the people who depend on it, and — because it was a joint delivery — our part had to fit precisely against Honest IT Group's part with no seams showing to the client.

We built the live tracking to be current and reliable at scale — location updating in real time and holding accuracy under the volumes a major OEM generates. The engineering priority was steadiness: a tracking system is only trusted if it is right the hundredth time as well as the first.
